Skadar Lake without chemical pollution - SOLUTION Skadar Lake without chemical pollution - SOLUTION is a cooperation project funded in the framework of the IPA II Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Montenegro-Albania 2014-2020 Programme of the European Union. Although a comfortable life without chemicals is hard to imagine, when dangerous substances reach the water they pose a threat to the aquatic ecosystem, but also to humans. In the EU Water Framework Directive (WFD), the substances that pose a danger to humans and the environment to the extent that priority measures must be taken to reduce their occurrence, are classified as priority substances. There is no real picture of the situation on whether and to what extent Skadar Lake is polluted with chemicals, especially with priority ones. This water resource shared by Montenegro and Albania requires continuous joint measures and plans to improve the everyday life of citizens in the cross-border area. Cooperation between the Center for Ecotoxicological Research Podgorica, the University of Tirana and Green Center Albania will, among other things, raise awareness of the proper management of chemicals in the environment. The Project Skadar Lake without chemical pollution - SOLUTION, will significantly help to strengthen the professional and technical capacities of institutions for targeted analysis of priority substances in water, sediment and biota in accordance with the requirements of the Water Framework Directive. In addition, the applied bioassay tests, as a step forward, will help to more comprehensively assess the water quality of Skadar Lake.
